10093 error, netsh winsock reset not working

Hi,

all of a sudden, I'm getting a 10093 error when I try to connect from my desktop to my wife's computer.  I can connect from hers to mine, or to hers from another machine (so it isn't her install).  I tried using ipconfig /flushdns, but that didn't work either.  The full message is:

LogMeIn Remote Control Client
Copyright (C) 2003-2009 LogMeIn, Inc. Patented and patents pending.
Host reports version 982.
Client version 586.

Connecting...
DNS lookup failed for joanne-computer-nbqylizlcs.app10.logmein.com
Connection failed.
[No error description found] Error code: 10093

I also tried this in safe mode, logged in as Administrator and under my regular name.  I've tried it with Firefox and IE (8), so at this point I'm sure it's some wierd Windows problem.  Everything else works: I can browse, ftp, up/download.  Any help would be appreciated!

Re: 10093 error, netsh winsock reset not working

Couldn't log in under my previous name!  Boy, I'm having an interesting day here.

Anyway, I tried the MS suggestions, but according to netdiag, everything is fine.  I also checked manually to see if all of the protocols were installed, and they are.

This is very unusual, apparently.  Any other ideas would be very much appreciated.

Did you run the Fix-It file from the site??

Yes, I ran the Fix-It from MS, but it didn't work.

Re: 10093 error, netsh winsock reset not working

Thanks for the suggestion.  The problem is, the winsock seems to be working - with everything else.  I tried using "ShowMyPC" and it worked without a problem.  I even tried the MS Messenger Remote Assist, and that worked, too.

It seems to be unique to LMI Free.  Perhaps I should uninstall and re-install it again?  Doesn't make sense, though, since the problem is with connecting to OTHER computers, not mine.  And I thought that was via a plug-in.  If it doesn't work in either Firefox or IE, then there goes the corrupt plug-in theory!

Dumb of me to ask now, but I assume you're using active x. Have you tried Java?

Okay, that comment about Java - the one browser I didn't try yet was Google Chrome.  Guess what?  It works!  So, it's not my winsock after all.  I'm going to uninstall the Logmein add ons for Firefox, and see what happens.  I'll update afterwards.

Re: 10093 error, netsh winsock reset not working

I uninstalled the Logmein plugin, turned down the option to install it, and voila!  Works fine.  Re-installed the plug-in, and voila!  Same problem again.

So, for some reason, the plug-in isn't playing nicely with my computer all of sudden.  I'll just skip it until such time as it works or I find out why it isn't.

Too bad there's no way I can troubleshoot why it isn't working, after no problems until now!
