Remote install of LogMeIn Free

Hi,
Is there a way to remotely install the free version of LogMeIn.
It appears IT Reach has this facility to send an email to a person wanting assistance which allows them to install IT Reach.
Is there any similar option for LogMeIn free version. The person I want to assist is 200 miles away and I don't want to give them my account details and password to install themselves.
Thanks

RE: Remote install of LogMeIn Free

I know of no way to do a remote install of LogMeIn unless you have LogMeIn Rescue.  That allows you to access a remote machine without preloading software on it (it downloads an applet and runs that).  At that point, you would have access to their computer and could add it to your account for future connections.

I know this isn't what you hoped to hear - but maybe someone else has a way to do it.

Anyone ?

You're right K-, LogMeIn for remote access only (free) cannot be deployed remotely except in the manner which you described w/ Rescue. LogMeIn IT Reach is the only version which has the remote deploy capability.

Am I missing something? Why can't you get them to login with their own username password details, install the s/w, then tell *you* their details?

RE: Remote install of LogMeIn Free

You could do that, but then if you are going to have 25 different computers that you take care of, you must remember each email address/password for each LMI account you set up.  You would also need to remember 25 matching computer passwords to access their computers.

Normally, I open an account and then add each computer as I need.  Since it is only for friends and family, I go in and change my password on my LMI account.  I then give the info to them, over the phone, and let them sign in to my LMI account, and then I talk them through adding their computer, telling them what password to use for their computer.  (I have a certain method of coming up with the passwords so that it is easy to match password with computer).  Then, I get access to their machine, log them off the LMI site, and then change my password back.

Since these are people I can trust, I feel safe this way.  However, it could be unsafe with some people.

RE: Remote install of LogMeIn Free

I used to direct a client to the direct download logmein.com/logmein.exe

When they'd install it and it gets to the user name password, giving them the user name (my e-mail address) was no big deal, the password would be: helpme?? (?? would be a random number I chose which I would set just just prior to helping them) or something simple. Once I gained access to their computer I'd change the password.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like changing password before and after the remote install is the way to go for now.

RE: Remote install of LogMeIn Free

I sometimes but not always use the meathod of creating a user in my IT Reach account that only has "Deploy Permissions" (So they cant jack up my account) and point my customers to the LogMeIn.exe installer and use a special email and password to create the pc account inside the installer and then uninstall/remove the pc when my session is over.

Only downfall is that if the user logs into the www.logmein.com with that same email and password they have access to remote to any of the systems in my account!

The only work around I have come up with for this problem above is I have scripted in AutoIT v3 and packaged the LogMeIn installer so the user simply runs the installer and does not need to put in a email and password since my AutoIt script does this automaticly.
