Re: Stolen Laptop Can Connect to But Not Access It

Hi tHo_MAS

Firstly, thank you for your contribution.

When you say the Administrators password - I have the password (or I did have!!) when I first purchased and started up the machine and put in my own password. I also had  guest enabled access to the laptop, which, I have found out an other forums that somebody can change the access password (although they cant get into all the programmes LMI included). I tried this guest access on another computer and it is possible to change the password for the start up process.

I think, that whoever is using my laptop - AND YES I can still see them on line! may have changed the password, but can't access all parts of the computer, which is why LMI is still running (until they decide to format the hard drive).

So my question still remains - is there anyone out there that can help?

(By the way, my previous posting had a word ** bleeped** out - is the word d@mn such a profanity? and if so, I apologise on this posting for causing offence)

I just wanted to comment on the BLEEPED out word in your previous post.  I don't think anyone of the forum moderators did that - I think it was automatically done by the forum software.  I believe that anytime anyone edits their messages, or a moderator edits a users message, it is noted below the message.  I will edit this message, and you can see what I mean - look at the last line of this message.

But, you don't know how much that word offends me !  lol  -   just kidding !!!!!

I am sure you are thinking much worse words than that when you think about the thief that has your computer !!!!  I know I would have a few choice words available !

P.S.  The ability to edit posts comes with building your status on this forum.  Some people won't have the ability - and I just wanted you to know that in case you can't edit your posts yet.  I didn't want someone thinking that I have special rights or anything.  I am just a normal user.

(I just entered edit mode - now I will exit and a message will go below automatically.)

Re: Stolen Laptop Can Connect to But Not Access It

:smileyvery-happy:** OMG **  I had a 'phone call from the Police yesterday ...... they have recovered my laptop - AFTER I told them that Orange (the ISP) had the name and address of the user. Well I never really doubted that they would get it back and I knew through my hard work and initiative,  ooops - their hard work and initiative, that I would see my laptop again!! Perhaps I was a little unfair in my last posts (LOL).

I asked them what the chances were of recovering the £70  I had to pay on the excess to fix my car window, from when the thief broke it - and a bewildered look started to form on his face - this told me that it was a too complicated question. Oh well !!!

So now I'm going to spend the next few days cleaning up the added software, photographs and lots of toolbars that have no use, as well as the melted chocolate and toast crumbs in between the keyboard.

Thanks everybody for your contributions and suggestions - and especially KGHalbe who stuck with me throughout. I'll miss your advice and humour - but maybe we'll correspond again -next time my computer gets stolen!!   :-))

Now, I guess you have to change your name on this forum as you aren't "at a loss"  anymore !!!

If we will only correspond when your computer gets stolen, I hope I never talk to you again !  I hate to hear of laptops (or anything) getting stolen.  I have no feeling for thiefs, and they deserve to be caught and pucished.

I am glad to hear that you got the laptop back.  I like happy endings.  Even though you have it back, doesn't mean you can't stop into the forum and say a thing or two.  Maybe encourage someone else who is in the same position that you were in.  Give them a bit of hope.

Thanks for giving us the good news - now, keep your laptop out of view so it doesn't get "borrowed" again.
