Error 1920?

I keep getting the message:
Error 1920, logmein Failed to Start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the system.

What does this mean/what can I do?

1920 means the service won't start.

Mainly we get this when another program is utilizing the port we use.

Since it is already installed, go to Start > Run, and type in 'cmd'

Then type 'cd c:\program files\logmein\x86'
Now type 'logmein install -port 2345'

You should be fine after this.

Re: Error 1920?

I got the same error 1920.  I triedto use My Computer -> Manage to manually restart the service. That did not work. I tried to re-install the service on a several different ports that were not 2002 and that were definitely not in use (netstat -anb).  I uninstalled my AVG antivirus software.  I uninstalled my Spybot Search and Destroy antispyware software.  None of these worked either. I double checked my firewall settings on my local PC, on my DSL Modem, on my other routers.  Again, nothing worked. The service would simply not start up, and I could not find the reason why.  I even resorted to completely uninstalling LogMeIn, and even going into regedit to delete all the HKEY_LOCALMACHINE settings and entries for LMI, LMI Systray, and so on, and then re-installing LogMeIn.  Again, none of thise worked.  The service would simply refuse to restart for no apparent reason.  I even looked at the LMI log files to try to see what was going wrong.   Again, nothing worked.  I also used Task Manager, and systematically killed off each process, one by one to see what other software could be interfering with LogMeIn.exe.  Again, nothing worked.

Ultimately, the one thing that did work was when I ran Windows XP Pro Update tool, and upgraded to WinXP SP3.  After installing that new upgrade (for free), LogMeIn automatically started up just fine.  That was the trick. Nothing else described above worked.

So if you're in no man's land after reading all of the threads here, and are just about to throw LogMeIn into the trash, and no longer use it, trying upgrading to at least Windows XP SP3.  That did the trick for me where none of the other tricks worked.

Re: Error 1920?

This work for me - I got the 1920 error - left the retry / cancel box open - went over to the cmd prompt and put in the line mentioned above to us a different port.

Thanks

Re: Error 1920?

jw0847 - thank you for that clarification.  I initially typed in the "logmein install -port 2345" in the command prompt with no luck.  It said "logmein" was not a recognized command.  But then read your note and realized that you have to go through the installation process, get to the point you get stuck (the retry/cancel screen), leave that on (don't hit cancel!) - go back to command prompt window and then type in the "logmein install -port 2345".  It then works because you have installed enough for it to see the right file.

After that finishess,  then you hit "retry" on the original install screen and it finishes the installation no problem.  Thanks for the help, saved me loads of time and it works perfect now.

Re: Error 1920?

Spike's solution did it for me!  To everyone else, if this is the solution you need, you have to install the port while the retry/cancel window is on your screen.  If you click cancel, then you will not be able to install the port.  Instead, install the port and then click Retry.  Thanks Spike!

Re: Error 1920?

On my windows machine certainly. the path is not quite as listed. Found the sevice in the service list and it was running from.

C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn\x64\

This location was where the 'logmein install - port 2345' command worked and the installation could be competed.

Suggest anyone with this problem check where the service is running from and use command prompt to navigate to the appropriate location and run the command from there.
