So, what changed last night? Yesterday evening I was using the Java client. It worked for quite a while, then I got disconnected several times, then the list of My Computers was gone, so I went to bed. This evening, the interface options are gone. I try to click the icon to the left of Remote Control and the page reloads in HTML mode instead of giving me options. There's an ActiveX button, but clicking that also just reloads in HTML mode. I'm using Opera and will not use IE except in a dire emergency, so ActiveX is not an option.
I looked on the home page and product page but could not find anything about new versions at all, much less about this feature changing.

I normally use Opera, though Opera has done so many strange things in recent years that I often have to switch to Firefox. I used Java last night, and IIRC that used to be the only choice. It seems to load pretty quickly, but I'll try Flash for comparison.
