RE:
Please consider, Central augments and extends the features you previously had with IT Reach, Pro and Free, including:
1. You can now deploy an unlimited number of LogMeIn Free clients to any computer remotely using a deployment link in Central. This helps you save time and effort getting new machines connected to your account.
Not for me it doesn't. Because of the HIPAA regulations, we REQUIRE all of our facilities to install ANY remote connection at the client. I have never found the previous deployment methods the least burdensome. Further, when I do need to install the logmein client remotely myself (versus sending the user an email with the link and the appropriate credentials) I use Crossloop. This new deployment link is not a welcome feature. It is a potential security risk, one that I will find very difficult to justify to the powers-that-be.
2. You can now save login credentials for both Pro2 (formerly IT Reach/Pro) computers AND LogMeIn Free computers using Central. This helps you save time and effort re-entering or having to memorize passwords.
I could save login credentials with the old portal using firebox and our fingerprint readers. Further, there are a SLEW of third-party apps that can do the same thing. This new "feature" is also a security risk, and a potential HIPAA violation for medical facilities. With the fingerprint readers, the auto logins were specific to the user's fingerprint. If I store the logins within logmein, anyone with access to the computer can autologin to a workstation - whether they have the proper clearance and access or not. That's a definite NO-GO here.
3. Central introduces new graphical charting for both reports, inventory, and alerts, helping you see at-a-glance the status of the computers and users in your account.
There is NOTHING in the added eye garbage of any significant use to an organization that uses remote access and specifically logmein internally. Further, I could see at a glance a hell of a lot more PERTINENT information with the old interface. What I need to know: which computers are up, which are down, and which are being accessed remotely. That's it. What else is of value to know "at a glance?" All of the ancillary reports were available in the old interface, unobtrusively behind the scenes and available only when necessary, where the belonged.
4. Central includes the Hamachi2 VPN connectivity service at no additional charge. I encourage you to look at the networking section of Central and see if its virtual networking services could benefit you and your employees. It takes only minutes to set up.
Hamachi was ALREADY available at no charge. Further, there are more robust and free alternatives to Hamachi; specifically the award-winning Leafnetworks, which we had to switch to some time ago because of incompatibilities between Hamachi and one of our medical management programs.
