Re: Goodbye Logmein

[ Edited ]

I've been using Hamachi for over a year and I wouldn't think of using any other software now. However, the new interface is nearly unbearable, and I can't find many of the simple settings I always used to use, such as don't run Hamachi at startup.

Also, they completely removed the account transfer page at https://my.hamachi.cc/transfer/index.php. This was a vital page for me! My computer completely died this morning. I setup my second computer and installed Hamachi, only to find the interface is horrible, I can't find anything I need, and I have no way to regain ownership of my networks. No, I cannot copy my config from my old computer... Hamachi is my primary method for connecting to those who are important to me. I'm more dissapointed right now then I can remember being.

There are some things I need to know:

  1. Is there ANY way (other than copying the config) to retreive my network ownerships? I must assume not...
  2. Is there a built-in setting in this version to set auto-start (at system startup) to false?

Re: Goodbye Logmein

Since the upgrade I have not been able to connect to my host computer. My host locks up and has to be reset and I have to do a system restore to get up and running again. I just signed up for a 30 day free trial of gotomypc.com and it seams to work ok. At the end of my free trial if logmein does not have the bugs worked out then it's Goodbye Logmein!

Re: Goodbye Logmein

This was just wrong. Our company has been using the PAID version of Logmein and we have always been able to add a user, or group machines, etc. Now suddenly I cannot and when I call to ask why I am informed (for the first time) that Logmein has STRIPPED the features from my PAID account and if I want them back I will need to pay an extra $100 per account to do so.

What kind of business practice is this? And you're calling it an upgrade as though we're idiots?

So now what is the difference between my paid accounts and just using the free version? I see no need to continue paying for Logmein.

I am switching ASAP just out of spite. I'll even pay another company MORE than $299 if need be just because of the way Logmein went about this whole thing. How shady! I cannot believe Logmein would treat loyal PAYING customers this way. I just renewed all of my subscriptions last month too. Shame on you Logmein!

...And all this with no notice whatsoever. I had to lose the functionality and then wait until I needed it to learn it was no longer available. Seriously Logmein... Not even a courtesy email?

Goodbye Logmein.

Re: Goodbye Logmein

Like JTyler and many others, I just found out about functionality getting stripped off of my Pro2 account when I went to use these needed functions and they were no longer there.  Specifically, it appears as though I can no longer send someone a link to install LMI, my groups are gone, the ability to create alerts associated with individual machines is gone, and the automatic login functionality is gone too.  All of these fetures are now add-ons which need to be accessed through LMI Central (after you purchase it course).  THIS IS RIDICULOUS!  I will certainly be carefully researching alternative solutions at this point!!

Re: Goodbye Logmein (or not)

Actually, I was wrong. It is not an extra $100 per account to get the functionality back. It is an extra $299 per account to get the functionality back. The Logmein Central is in ADDITION to any Pro2 accounts you may have.

In Logmein's defense, it IS the best connection solution available for a business like ours. I hate to admit it, especially after my rant, but I went ahead and purchased the Logmein Central and now I can work again. I do feel like my money was extorted from me though.

I do not like that Logmein did it the way they did it and I still believe they should find a way to make it up to paid customers like us who were left swinging in the breeze when we discovered the stripped functionality. Obviously we needed to accomplish a task and were held up when we discovered we could no longer accomplish the task unless we made an extra purchase. Our time is money too and Logmein wasted some of ours by not informing us of these changes.

Re: Goodbye Logmein

Remote desktop Client seems to do much the same thing as Logmein.  It is built into windows.

VPN provides a safe/clean file sharing method.  Also built in.  Just have to adjust your sharing

Does Logmein provide $300 added value compared to the two free methods - -RDC and VPN ?
