PowerPoint slide show issue

I am using the new GoToWebinar, and when my speakers share their PowerPoint in slide show mode, GoToWebinar only displays the editing view of PowerPoint if they choose to share only the PowerPoint application. Therefore, they are compelled to share their entire screen to resolve this issue.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Hi Aristeidis, nice to see you again, thanks for sharing all your steps. Glenn and I tested this out to ensure things were acting as expected, we were able to to share the Slide Show Mode with the desktop app using these steps:

    If You Have one monitor:

    1.  Set Up PowerPoint
      - Open your PowerPoint file.
        - Start Slide Show mode so your slides display full screen.
    2. Share Your PowerPoint in GoToWebinar
        - In the GoToWebinar control panel, click Share
        - Choose 'Share Application'
          - You’ll see two PowerPoint windows to choose from:
              - Full Screen Slide Show—This shows only your current slide (you want to choose this)
              - Edit/View with Notes —This shows the editing view, with access to your notes.
    3. Sharing Notes (If Needed)
        - If you switch to the notes/edit view (using Alt+Tab), your slide show will pause, and attendees will see that paused slide.
        - To resume the slideshow, click the "Resume Slideshow" pop-up.
          - Note: Each time you return to your notes, your slide show will pause again until you resume.

    Advice:
    - For a smooth experience, share your full screen slide show window if you don’t need to see your notes during the presentation.
    - You could also print out your notes or have them available on a separate device (like a mobile phone)

Ideally, you could use two monitors, so the notes view is on one screen and the slide show is on the other and that is the screen that is being shared.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi KateG  and GlennD,

Thanks again for the helpful insights so far. I wanted to share an update based on some experiments I conducted across different platforms and setups:

    • macOS with GoTo application: PowerPoint sharing works as expected. When presenters switch to slide show mode, attendees see the correct view, even when using "Share Application."
    • Windows with Chrome browser (web access to GoTo): Also works as expected. Slide show mode is properly displayed when sharing the PowerPoint application.
    • Windows with GoTo desktop application: The issue persists. When presenters use "Share Application" and switch to slide show mode, attendees still see the editing view. This causes confusion and forces presenters to share their entire screen, which introduces risks like pop-ups from other apps.

It seems the problem is specific to the Windows desktop version of the GoTo application. I hope this helps narrow down the issue and potentially guide a fix in a future update.

    Thanks again for your support!

Hi Aristeidis, as a best practice Presenters should exit any applications that may cause pop up messages on their screens before they begin presenting. Another option is to pause notifications temporarily, both Windows and Mac support this.

We have started investigating what is required to introduce an old Labs beta feature that existed in GoTo Webinar Classic, it allowed the Presenter to share a rectangle portion of their screen that they defined. I hope to have more news about this later in the year.

    Dear KateG ,

Thank you for your response. I am aware of the solution you mention (Share Screen), but unfortunately, it is causing issues, as sometimes popups from other software appear. Therefore, the "Share Application" option resolves that issue but creates confusion for my speakers, as they cannot share the slide show view. Microsoft Teams does not have this problem. With Microsoft Teams, when you "Share Application" (PowerPoint) while in editing view and then switch to slide show, everything works smoothly.

Would it be possible to address this important issue in a future update?

Hi Aristeidis Welcome to the Community

If you select "Share Application" attendees will only see the actions you take with that application, and it will display the PowerPoint in editing view. If you select "Share Screen"  attendees will see the view you choose in PowerPoint.

Having two monitors is ideal, especially if you are looking to view presenter notes. Are there obstacles when sharing the entire screen? I may have more suggestions.
