LogMeIn Community Guidelines


Welcome to the LogMeIn Community!


The purpose of the LogMeIn Community is to provide a user-to-user support forum for LogMeIn users. It is a place where they can share their best practices, tips and technical know-how, and provide solutions and advice to each other about LogMeIn products and services.


We want the community to be appropriate, friendly, informative, and fun for everyone.


You must be 18 years or older to participate in the LogMeIn Community forums. Your use of the LogMeIn Community Forums is subject to the terms and conditions of use. By participating in the LogMeIn Community, you explicitly agree to these terms and conditions.


A.    The Basics


Just ask. The community is here for you. If you don’t understand something, there are plenty of community members who can help you out. Regardless of whether you’re a beginner or an expert, your questions and input are valid and appreciated.


Constructive feedback is valued and always welcome. However, please do not specifically request a response from LogMeIn to an issue. If you are still stuck and cannot get the answer you need from the community, try contacting us on one of our phone or email support channels.


We have a team of moderators who monitor the discussions. Their main duty is to make sure that all members play by the guidelines listed below. They may also post important news and information to the community coming from LogMeIn.


To help you get the information you need as quickly as possible, we recommend that you follow these guidelines:


  1. Search our knowledge base: Select the product from the side menu at to access that product’s knowledge base.
  2. Search the community. Someone may have had the same issue as you in the past, and there may already be an answer. Use the "search" box near the top of the page.
  3. Start a new thread in the community if you cannot resolve your issue using the above methods. Be sure to give as much detail as possible.
  4. Submit a support ticket to our Customer Care team if you still cannot get your issue resolved from any of the above methods.  Click on the ‘Contact Us’ link from the Help menu at the top of every page.


B. Communication Etiquette


  1. Be courteous: Be courteous and constructive in your posts/messages. Write to others as you would expect others to write to you. There is no need to YELL! Your voice will be heard.
  2. Bad language: Do not use profanity or other inappropriate language. At all. If you disagree strongly with another community member’s opinion, it is best to ignore him/her instead of getting involved in a flaming war.
  3. Report abuse: If you see any examples of bad language or abuse, use the “Report Inappropriate Content” link on the post to flag it for moderation.
  4. Do not disregard instructions from a moderator or administrator. Communications between Moderators, Administrators and users are logged and we will track repeat breaches of policy.
  5. Stay on-topic: If you are contributing to an existing thread, ensure that you do not stray off-topic, and that your post is relevant to the thread.
  6. Using Humor: Unless it is clear from the thread that it is acceptable, be cautious about introducing humor into a thread. What is side-splitting to you may be offensive to others.
  7. Using Smileys: If you are being light-hearted in your response, use the Smiley feature to make this clear. Not doing so may make your post seem flippant. However, be frugal with your use of smileys.
  8. Provide plenty of detail: This is a technical support forum. If you are asking for help or guidance, give your fellow members as much detail as possible to work with. “I’m having problems connecting” is not very helpful, whereas “I’m getting error message xxxx, I’m using LogMeIn Pro - version xxxx, and I’m connecting from a Windows XP machine to a Macbook Pro” gives everyone much more to base their answers on and saves time clarifying your question.
  9. Use brief titles and tags: When starting a thread, do not type the whole message of your thread as the title or as a tag on your post. Use a brief, descriptive title, then use the content field to fill in further details. Limit your tags to single keywords. On the other hand, “Help me” is too brief a title. Populate your title with a subject that is relevant and to the point.
  10. Show Gratitude: Please thank anyone who takes the time to help you, even if their advice doesn’t actually help you, by giving some kudos or a a positive comment.
  11. Mark your solution: PLEASE, when you have an answer to your issue, DO return and post the answer in the original thread, or mark the answer as an accepted solution. Not only does this tie up the thread, but it also adds to the collective knowledge in the community when posts are marked as accepted solutions.
  12. Keep personal information secret: Never give personal information on the forums that could be used by unscrupulous individuals for, e.g. identity theft. What may seem trivial details to you, might assist an ID theft. Do not provide email/snail mail addresses, IP addresses or phone numbers.
  13. Evading profanity filters: Do not attempt to evade our profanity filters by disguising bad language in your posts. If the spirit of the post is offensive, it will be judged as such.
  14. Personal representation: Do not post any messages that impersonate another person or affiliation with an entity, including, but not limited to, LogMeIn.
  15. Multiple posting: Do not post the same message on more than one board. Multiple postings will be removed to ensure parallel threads do not run simultaneously.


C.    Creating Your Community User Name


Your LogMeIn Community user name will be your ID to the whole community. Choose it carefully, and follow these guidelines:


  1. Do not use bad language in your user name.
  2. Do not include an advertisement of your company in your username. Specifically, do not include an Internet URL.
  3. Do not choose a name that could identify you as a LogMeIn employee.


D.    Creating a Signature


You can add a signature to your messages that will give fellow members some idea of who you are and what motivates you. If you don’t want a signature, don’t have one. As with your user name, you should think carefully what you include in your signature. In particular follow these guidelines:


  1. Do not include bad language.
  2. Feel free to use a humorous signature, but weigh up the impact it may have when you express serious opinions on the community.
  3. Keep it brief and be original. If you do quote someone else, make it clear - others will know it’s been lifted from elsewhere.
  4. Add a line and some spaces at the top of your signature to create a clear separation from the text of your posts.


E. LogMeIn Community No-Go Areas


Please play by the rules. Your posts appear automatically, but posts that violate the community guidelines may be edited or deleted by a moderator. Repeated and/or serious violation of the guidelines may result in a user being banned from the discussions or even legal action. Examples of discussion no-go areas include:


  1. Promotion or spamming: The LogMeIn Community is intended for problem-solving, not promotion. Please refrain from posting anything that would constitute advertising (particularly of competitors’ products), junk mail, spam, chain letters, or any other form of unauthorized solicitation.
  2. Illegal or offensive posts: Posts that are obscene or pornographic, abusive, inflammatory, illegal, libelous, or otherwise objectionable or injurious are not allowed. Posts that refer to religion, politics, race, nation, gender, or sexual orientation are off-topic and not allowed.
  3. Harassment (“flaming"): Personal attacks or harassment ("flaming") are not acceptable in the public discussions or private messages.
  4. Infringing on copyrights or intellectual property rights: Post only your own thoughts and/or material. Don’t post anything that violates or infringes on any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other proprietary rights, and do not post URLs or links to websites or servers offering content or downloads that violate intellectual property rights.
  5. Promoting non-approved uses of LogMeIn: Don’t infringe your acceptable use license that you agreed to before you downloaded a LogMeIn product.
  6. Posting harmful or inaccurate information: Don’t post information, URLs, or links to websites or servers that contain software viruses or any other computer code, files or instructions that might be damaging to LogMeIn’s products.
  7. Price & Contract Agreement Disclosures. Users may not post any material regarding specific prices, fees charged or paid services, or any information concerning prices, discounts, or terms and conditions of sales either obtained by or offered to another entity. Users also are prohibited from discussing contract agreement specifications.
