error converting recording

Earlier today I was recording a meeting (windows 10, GoToMeeting version 7.25.0 build 5742) when towards the end of the meeting my PC froze and I had no other option but to reboot.
Now when I try and convert the recording it all goes well until I get the attached error. Is there some way to cut the conversion or the .g2m file short by a few seconds so that I can extract a usable recording?
Nothing is saved after this error is dismissed.

Hi Brad,
Thanks for posting in the community.

You may need to repair the file and then try reconverting.  To accomplish this repair and conversion:

  1. Locate your unconverted .g2m recording file (typically found in the recordings folder within an Originals folder)
  2. Right-click the recording file and click Rename
  3. Replace the .g2m extension with .wmv
  4. Click Yes to confirm changes
  5. Download AsfTools 3.1 from here
  6. Click and Open AsfTools 3.1
  7. Click I Agree
  8. Select your preferred save directory and click Install
  9. Click Yes when prompted to launch the program
  10. Click OK when the About AsfTools box appears
  11. Locate your unconverted .wmv recording file then click-and-drag the file into the bottom panel:
  12. User-added image
  13. Click Repair on the left navigation
  14. Click Lost Chunks
  15. Click Process
  16. Click Close once the process has finished
  17. Another file of the recording is created with a .Ich.wmv extension in the same location as the unconverted recording
  18. Locate the file on your computer
  19. Right-Click the .Ich.wmv file
  20. Click Rename
  21. Replace .Ich.wmv with .g2m
  22. Click Yes to confirm changes
  23. Convert the .g2m file with the recording converter for GoToMeeting by copy and pasting the file into the GoToMeeting recordings folder, right click the GoToMeeting icon in your computer system tray and then left click on Convert Recordings.

Additional Information Please make sure the following applies before using the AsfTools 3.1:

  • Make sure recording is saved on a local drive
  • If the recording is a long file name, rename it to something shorter
  • Try re-converting to alternate file format (.wmv, .mp4)
  • Try converting the file on a different computer if possible

Re: error converting recording

Brian, you are a star!

The .wmv format worked a treat, one "lost chunk" was removed and the conversion worked perfectly .

I can't get the asf tool kit to load on my PC (Windows 10).  It keeps saying the files are tampered with

Re: error converting recording

I cannot rename the file - it doesn't give me the option to "replace" the .g2m with .wmv to use this app.  Please advise

Re: error converting recording

Hi @Rotary6510 ,

I'm sorry for the troubles there.

If you received the same error message yourself, could you specify what operating system and gotomeeting version are in use there?

You should also check how large the recording files are, because if they are under 1MB, then there may not be much left to work with.
