Launcher Service (v2.35, b459) Release Notes

If you haven't heard yet, the GoTo products merged with LogMeIn! In an ongoing effort to switch from Citrix to LogMeIn names and domains, we've made a couple changes to the installation process including the Launcher, Web Deployment Plugin, and MSI files. The "Citrix Online Launcher" application, which launches you into your sessions has been renamed to "GoTo Opener" for Windows (Mac users can expect the same name change very soon). And with this newest version of the GoTo Opener app, the former Web Deployment Plugin is no longer necessary (the plugin will be removed automatically if you already have it installed).

Highlights:

  • "Citrix Online Launcher" renamed to "GoTo Opener" (Windows only)
  • Retirement of the Web Deployment Plugin
  • New log file and Registry paths (Windows only)
  • New Multi-User GoTo Opener MSI available

What's New?
"Citrix Online Launcher" Renamed to "GoTo Opener" (Windows only)

  • This newest version of the Citrix Online Launcher app has been renamed  as the "GoTo Opener app"! The application itself looks and acts in the same way as previous versions; it has simply been given a new name and has been updated to comply with the ongoing effort to switch from Citrix to LogMeIn names and domains. Note that Mac users will see these same changes after a future release. (CAKE-1581)
    • Note: If the application is automatically installed during the "join flow" when they are starting or joining a session, users will see the name of the product (i.e., "GoToMeeting Opener.exe" or "GoToAssist Opener.exe"). However, if they are installing the application from a direct link or when they are looking at the installed application, they will see the generic "GoTo Opener" name, since the application is shared by multiple GoTo products. 24309-jcpg08.png

  • With this release, users will not only see the new GoTo Opener when downloading the file, but will also see it listed in other places (such as under "Programs & Features" and in their log files). This change applies to all aspects of the application, including (but not limited to ) the single user .EXE file, the multi-user .MSI file (note that these URLs have also been updated), the Launcher web pages that provide help tips for installing the new file, and the registry and log file paths. Since October 2016 some users have been seeing the new "GoTo Opener.exe" name when downloading the file, while others continued to to see the Citrix Online Launcher.exe; however, the application itself and all affiliated references were still labeled "Citrix Online Launcher" up until this point. • As with all past updates to the app, when users update to the newest version it replaces the older version. This update will occur in the same fashion, but users will also notice the name change. When users install v1.0, b459 of the app, it replaces v1.0, b456 - which will also change the Publisher and Name of the application. 11271-1nqd38e.png

  • Rollout notes:
    • The transition from "Launcher" to "Opener" has been ongoing for some time and will continue to be rolled out over the next few weeks.
    • As of this release, all users installing for the first time will install this newest version (v1.0, b456) and will see "GoTo Opener.exe". In addition, anyone using the direct downloads for the single user .EXE file and the multi-user .MSI file will also install the newest version.
    • In addition, some existing users may also receive the newest version and see "GoTo Opener" instead of "Citrix Online Launcher", depending on their browser settings and whether the Launcher Service can detect the "Citrix Online Launcher" already installed on their computer.
    • Over the next few weeks, new builds of the GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar, GoToTraining, GoToAssist and GoToMyPC desktop apps will be modified to use the newest version of the application. Once users are on those new builds of the various desktop apps, any remaining users who still have the older version installed will update to the newest version and see "GoTo Opener" as well.

Retirement of the Web Deployment Plugin

  • The new GoTo Opener app will not require the use of the Citrix Online Web Deployment plugin (which helped the older Citrix Online Launcher app run properly), so when new users install the GoTo Opener app it will not include this unnecessary plugin. When future releases of the GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar, GoToTraining, GoToAssist and GoToMyPC desktop apps switch from using the older Launcher app to the new GoTo Opener app over the next few weeks, the GoTo Opener will detect the Citrix Online Web Deployment plugin on users' computers and automatically remove it. New Log File and Registry Paths (Windows Only)

  • As part of the ongoing effort to switch from Citrix to LogMeIn, the new GoTo Opener app's log files on Windows computers can now be found at C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\LogMeInLogs. Previously, they were found at C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\CitrixLogs. (CAKE-1574; -1575)
  • In addition, the new GoTo Opener's Registry paths are now \Software\LogMeInInc\GoTo Opener. Previously, they were \Software\Citrix\LauncherApp. (CAKE-1578)

New Multi-User GoTo Opener MSI Available

  • Now that the new GoTo Opener app is available, an updated version of the multi-user .MSI is now also available at https://launch.getgo.com/launcher2/latest/GoToOpenerMultiUser.msi. This can be used by IT Administrators who use MSIs to distribute our GoTo products (such as the GoToMeeting desktop app) to multiple users on their company network at one time. Any IT Admins who have used the MSI to install the Citrix Online Launcher app in the past will need to do the same thing with the new GoTo Opener app to ensure that their users can continue using our products in the future.
