You can set an automatic slide change time in PowerPoint for each slide. Maybe the presenter accidentally set this for some slides.
It is possible to be trying to set up an animation on a slide, like having each bullet appear at a certain timing, but instead accidentally create the timing for the slide to advance.
Also, if you copy slides from one PowerPoint presentation to another, they retain the slide change timing information.
