Hi pz,
signed up here to respond because this thread was too limited. I had been using Hamachi 1.0.1.5 for a very long time because later versions did not work for older games anymore. When version 2.x came out, I still stuck to the old version, downloaded it specifically to play old games and avoided the new one like the pest.
I cannot elaborate on the technical side but what happened was this:
- With 1.0.1.5 started up, game servers without manual IP function would auto-detect the Hamachi IP 5.x.y.z as the current local IP. Instead of using DHCP standard 192.x.y.z, they used the Hamachi IP if Hamachi had been started up prior to the game, thus making the game accessible inside the network for every connected player.
- Later versions did not manage to overwrite the DHCP address anymore. Regardless of Hamachi being started and online, the games would always start up servers using the local 192.x.y.z address, thus enabling access only for actually LAN connected computers since 192.x.y.z was restricted to local clients, which is why we used Hamachi in the first place.
This means that whatever change came after 1.0.1.5 probably caused older games not to identify the Hamachi network adapter's IP as the one to connect to.
Games in question are, non-exclusively, Counterstrike 1.6, Battlefield 1942, SWAT 4 and some other stuff that caused problems with direct online play. The loss of functionality concerning these games is what made me and the friends I was playing with refrain from using the new version. Even though I haven't used Hamachi in a while now due to having moved on to other games that worked flawlessly, the thought of later versions not working stuck with me. If you can make sure the original functionality is restored, the problem is solved.
Cheers. Funky.
