Relatively new user, and I like many aspects of LastPass over my previous solution, but I have been totally disappointed with the poor performance of searching for information within LastPass. Why can't it do a full text search of my vault, so it returns any item containing the text string in search?
Can you give some examples of what doesn't work? And what you think should work? My searching seems to find everything using a full text search, other than searching in passwords.
Using the browser plug in on Chrome on macOS...Open my Vault, typed (without the quotes) "camera" and one of the results shown in a login with the note "iOS iPhone web camera app."
Just repeated it with a specific word that is in a secure note type of record and it finds that record as well.
Also, just tested it with text that is part of a username field in a login record. Tried both the text at the start of the username as well as some text that is only in the middle of the username. Both find the record.
I'd suggest typing a different browser, trying logging in on the LastPass.com site, and trying the app. Do some work and others not? It is something with you setup as searching does work fine for me as you desire it and it works on many devices and OSes.
OK, I appreciate that feedback.
I was using Last Pass for Windows Desktop (on Windows 10) version (outside of a browser), and it turns out that is incomplete results. When I search with Chrome on Windows 10, or Firefox on Windows 10, using the previous example with "roles", I find 6 items that contain that string. When I search in my iPhone app, I get 3 items. When I login to lastpass.com and search, I get 6 items, so maybe that is the right answer.
I guess I don't understand what is happening, i.e. why is the search functionality/results so different on different platforms? Isn't the Windows Desktop App and the iPhone App independent of any browser issues?, so I would think the Search field operation is handled by code written by logmein.com, and I'm rather surprised the results are so different. I guess I will have stop relying on the Windows desktop app when I want to search to find items. I imported a few hundred entries from Password Safe when I learned about Last Pass, and some entries have info in the Notes field, which is why I have wanted to use the Search functionality often.
Thanks for helping reduce the frustration level.
Glad it works in some (or most) places. I'd strongly suggest reporting that as a bug. I agree that LastPass's code should not behave differently in the Window application vs. other locations.
I started using Lastpass few hours ago and I am already frustrated because of the way search works. I have one password saved as "Hotmail Email" and when I search for hotmail, all the passwords that contain hotmail shows up (44 of them to be exact). Most of them are my login email for various sites however I wanted to look for the name "Hotmail Email". I really hope Lastpass makes searching better.
I very much liked Lastpass (multiple year user) for its search depth. The last couple of releases search was reduced to nearly useless. I now must open listing / entry after listing / entry. (Given the time to locate an entry, this vault has become non-useful. Who needs security if one cannot use the information. I am thinking of switching to another vault system.)
