Re: Android Mobile Use and Autofill NOT WORKING

I have been having the same problem with this for probably at least a year. It used to work great on my Android phone but since I got my new s20 and even a little before then the autofill just stopped working. Now I have to manually copy and paste passwords from LastPass. This is very very frustrating because I've been using LastPass for many years and it used  Tutuapp to work great on the phone. I also am considering not using on my phone anymore which is frustrating since I've been paying for LastPass for many years

I also have same issue.

Re: Android Mobile Use and Autofill NOT WORKING

The Oreo Autofill is just unreliable. It's a 3+ year old API that has been upgraded with the Autofill API in Android 11, but LastPass still doesn't support Android 11's keyboard based autofill.

As an iOS and Android user the difference is night and day in autofill performance for LastPass. On iOS autofill never fails in apps, and works 100% of the time in browser whether that's Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. On Android, autofill on browser fails 90% of the time for me on my Pixel. On apps, it's maybe got a 50% success rate.

What I've found to consistently work is to turn off the Autofill Service by selecting "None" in System > Languages & Input > Autofill Service, and then selecting LastPass again. Now when you go back to your app or browser, the autofill works with a 90%+ success rate. The problem is maybe a few hours later or a day later it'll go back to failing. I suspect this is because a background service/app gets killed off by the Android system and so autofill isn't working anymore. Selecting "None" and then "LastPass" again is similar to a restart of that service which is why it works again.

Going back to the issue though, iOS actually uses a keyboard based autofill system, so the autofill is built into the keyboard. This means whenever you have text input, it'll  show an autofill suggestion. Now the keyboard isn't 100% reliable too in that I think some of us have probably run into situations where the keyboard doesn't pop up for a text box, but in my experience it's at least 99% reliable, which is far better than maybe the 30% reliability I see for LastPass' autofill.

I actually jumped ship to 1Password, but I still keep LastPass around because I've paid for it and my membership goes through 2021. 1Password has already implemented Android 11's autofill since the 11 update. The autofill reliability is probably in the high 90s and I can hardly recall any issues with it. LastPass is such a joke for not updating their app to handle the latest  Android API.

Re: Android Mobile Use and Autofill NOT WORKING

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately i tried 1password and moved my data over and it works flawless. My subscription to lastpass is about to expire. So unless they have an update soon to fix the issues i unfortunately will need to part ways. Thanks for the suggestion

Re: Android Mobile Use and Autofill NOT WORKING

Your observations seem consistent with mine.    I have finally gotten it to work intermittingly but only with Chrome.  Now I see LastPass changing their "free" option.  I'd be okay to pay but only if it worked!!!!  LastPass developers "ARE YOU LISTENING"????  Lots of Android customers out there.

Re: Android Mobile Use and Autofill NOT WORKING

Chrome tends to work better in my experience, but other Chromium based browsers like Brave are OK too. I'm not sure if Firefox works but I know the Nightly version does. Firefox has its own mess with Mozilla extremely limited on resources (the mainline browser doesn't even have pull to refresh... like a 10 year old Android feature).

You are probably onto something here. I have noticed when I use LastPass on my Pixel 5 that I regularly get prompted to update my settings for autofill when I know I have done it before. So I tried your suggestion and it seemed to get things rolling again for a while but eventually I was prompted again by LastPass to update my phone settings for autofill. When I checked the settings, LastPass was already set as the service to do autofill.

I did a free trial of 1Password so we'll see, but I would prefer to use LastPass for other reasons. However if they can't get this to work more consistently I wont be renewing.

That's quite interesting. I've never gotten any prompts to turn on Auto Fill. For the record I only use Autofill and not Legacy/Accessibility services on my Pixel 4. I think this overall experience just shows us how LastPass has a LOT of improvements needed.  It's buggy and the autofill is practically unusable compared to what iOS users have had since iOS12 introduced autofill API.

Oh and the fact that this forum doesn't even have a quoting mechanism is a travesty too...

Re: Android Mobile Use and Autofill NOT WORKING

Thank you for your reply, RachelO!

I've used and loved and recommended LastPass for a very long time, though I've always been frustrated by how infrequently LastPass' Android Autofill works with Firefox.

I've got the autofill settings right, and the Android 10 permissions right. Un-/Re-installing the app didn't help.

It's good that developers are working on making it work. But since LastPass is making dual-platform use Premium now, I need to make a decision now. If LastPass insists on people making that decision while it doesn't work, I'll be very disappointed to be forced to pay a different company instead.

Re: Android Mobile Use and Autofill NOT WORKING

Same issue. Works on Desktop, almost never on Firefox. Can boot from LastPass (how inconvenient is THAT?!)

Uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, set permissions. Same issue.

Could it be a setting in Firefox specifically to allow auto fill?

Particularly stinks since I am now paying the the app... Grrr.
