New Safari Extension not working on iPads

The latest update of LastPass on iOS offers the new Safari extension. It certainly works fine on iPhones.

It does not work at all on iPads though. As far as I know this is by design. But wouldn’t have it been nice if LastPass had just told us so? I mean I spent 30 minutes before I figured out that the safari extension on iOS will not work on iPads but only on iPhones.

Don’t get me wrong. If the Safari extension does not work on iPads this is OK for me. Please LastPass tell us so!

Re: New Safari Extension not working on iPads

I've just installed it on my iPad Pro and it is working fine for me, just like it is on my iPhone.

Re: New Safari Extension not working on iPads

Hi, thanks for your answer. I installed the update, activated the extension in settings and even rebooted the iPad. Nothing worked. After a while I got some weird looking menus when I tapped the LastPass icon in a form field.

As of right now suddenly it seems to work. What did I do? Well, the only thing I changed in LastPass itself was to add my address to the favorites. When I open up the LastPass app it will now show up right at the first page in the app.

So I’m not sure if this is normal behavior or a glitch or something else. So if somebody else is experiencing the same problem they might want to try what I did. Maybe it will help them as well.

Re: New Safari Extension not working on iPads

I’m having problems as well.  I installed the extension, and now the app isn’t recognizing my thumbprint to log in.  It requires my password.  The two don’t seem to communicate very well. Are there any tricks I should be using?  I’ve used the app on my iPad for a long time with no issues.

Re: New Safari Extension not working on iPads

Hi Abling,

Sorry you ran into issues with the fingerprint unlock. Hopefully you can answer a few questions to help us figure out what's going on.
1. Is the app requiring your MP to unlock for just the Safari Extension? Or is it happening when you also open the app or the iOS Autofill extension (The keyboard autofill integration)?
2. Did you try going into settings and disabling/reenabling the fingerprint unlock?

Thanks so much for your feedback and some extra info to help us figure this out.

Best,
Braden

Re: New Safari Extension not working on iPads”

Thanks for the reply.

I got an “unlock LastPass” icon, and when I clicked it too me to the app and required the MP.

even after unlocking and verifying settings, this has recurred.
I have turned ‘fingerprint unlock’ off and back on with no impact.

also, when unlocked and I log into a new site or create a new account, I get the LastPass pop up asking if I wa r to add to LastPass.  If I click ‘add password” the pop up does not go away, and hangs around until I reload the website. I have to open the app to add the new password to my vault.

Re: New Safari Extension not working on iPads”

Unlocking and using LastPass with FaceID works fine on all my iOS devices.

However I have deactivated the extension in Safari. LastPass still manages my passwords  and can fill login screens in Safari. But I deactivated the extension.

After some initial struggles it kind of worked. However it is extremely annoying. I also experienced from time to time problems that overlay windows offering to safe forms get stuck in Safari and you cannot close it. You have to reload the page. So this seems to be a bug because I’m not the only one experiencing it from time to time.

But overall the extension is really annoying . Especially when filling forms. Form filling in most cases does not work as expected. OK, that is not really a problem because you can edit forms that have been pre-filled by the LastPass extension. But I also discovered a lot of forms that get stuck. I cannot delete any pre-filled entries.

And those are  only a few of the problems that I have encountered with the extension. So I deactivated it and everything is fine again. And as mentioned before LastPass is still able to fill out login forms without problems. For me it seems that the new features that come with the extension itself have not been tested properly. That’s the case with a lot of new software and features not only in LastPass.

LastPass: Get your things fixed and your extension tested properly. Maybe I will try again. Until then I consider the extension feature a bunch of horse manure.

Re: New Safari Extension not working on iPads”

I agree.  I cannot get LastPass working on Safari.  I use it all the time on Desktop.

How do I get help on my Ipad?  Should I get a subscription on the Ipad?  It is discouraging.
