Hello again,
Thanks for your patience while I talked with our internal team to see how to resolve the issue. So that I can gather more information to provide to our team, does this also happen when you log in to the LastPass extension in a different browser? Which browsers does this happen in, or if it only happens in one browser which browser does it happen with? Do you have your browser set to clear cookies or never remember history? This can cause this setting to not work as expected as well.
Could you also Clearing the Local Cache for the Vault? Here are the directions for each operating system/device to clear the local cache: https://support.logmeininc.com/lastpass/help/how-do-i-clear-the-local-cache-for-my-vault-lp010126
I've been experiencing the exact same behavior for a week or two (not 100% sure, but since the extension updated and the UI changed recently).
I have LastPass setup on two Windows 10 systems, configured for both Firefox and Chrome (I keep both running the latest non-beta versions).
On both systems, in both browsers, I have "Open login dialog when browser starts" enabled, and I have "Show vault after login" disabled in LastPass. I also have LastPass configured to sign me out when I close my browser.
On both systems, this is what I'm seeing:
1) Close all browsers
2) Launch Firefox or Chrome
3) LastPass opens a new tab that prompts me to log into my LastPass account
4) I enter my email and password, click LOG IN
-> So far, so good, it's doing everything as configured
5) LastPass loads my LastPass Vault into the same tab that had the login dialog
-> This is the issue. As configured, based on the behavior of the extension before this update, when I logged in that tab should have automatically closed without my Vault loading into anywhere
My first troubleshooting step was to try to "reset" these options, so that I enabled the option that is disabled, and to disable the option that's enabled, reload the browser, check the options are both still as I left them, log out of LastPass, restart the browser, confirm the options are where I set them last, then put them back to where I want them to be, log out of LastPass, restart browser, log back in, check settings, check behavior, with no change in behavior.
(I've worked on projects where an options's setting is saved as "on" or "off" in some way, but the software update cleared the setting to blank even though the UI still showed it as "on" or "off", so you had to change the setting in order to "initialize" (for lack of a better term) the setting, after which point you could change the setting to on or off and it would respond to the setting. That's not the case here.)
I have cleared browser cache and cookies in all browsers. I have just cleared LastPass's cache. On both systems I uninstalled LastPass completely, cleared cache and cookies from all browsers, restarted the computer, reinstalled LastPass, and I'm still seeing the same behavior.
Forgot to specify: all browsers are 64bit if available, and the LastPass extension for Chrome are the binary version (or whatever it's called) so that it can share session info between browsers).
It seems A LOT of people are seeing this, it's obviously a bug and not a cache problem. When the auto login tab comes up on browser start, the URL is
chrome-extension://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/vault.html
(I replaced the string with xxxx in case it's sensitive), that would seem to imply to me that it is trying to open the vault, which it indeed subsequently does. Shouldn't it be "login.html" or something instead if the option to not show the vault on login is chosen?
Same here, I only use Chrome
I have similar set up except windows 8.1
It all started when the Lastpass extension got updated a few weeks ago.
The issue seems very well described on the thread by now. Clearly this is happening to a lot of us and Lastpass has to fix properly.
To answer Rachel's question precisely: exact same issue happens on chrome and firefox which I use in parallel with the lastpass extension in both browsers.
Having the same issue for the past few weeks. Very annoying.
Same for me, and on (new) Edge too!!
Right now I have to wait for the empty login tab, close and reopen the browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) and 99% this time the login tab is working. And then open the vault. 😠
I want back the "simple" login window, not the tab!
Hello,
As noted in the other thread you had commented on, there is not currently a way to roll back the version of the LastPass extension as LastPass only offers downloads and support for the latest version of the extension--using an outdated version of the extension can cause performance issues or security issues as well.
So that I can help with any other issues you're running in to, could you provide more details as to how the extensions stop working on Chrome and Firefox? Screenshots or more details about errors you encounter or more details about how it stops working would be appreciated so that I can try to assist and hopefully resolve those for you.
