VPN domain's tap device is down

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to use Hamachi in order to connect with some friends and play some old games in LAN, but when I run a new network and someone connects to it, I see a yellow warning sign beside his nickname. I've ran the built-in diagnostic tool and the output under Tunnel: was

VPN domain's tap device is down

I've searched on internet but the solutions that I tried didn't work. Someone suggested to uninstall the Hamachi Network adapter while Hamachi was running, but I cannot find the adapter at all. Is there a way to install it manually, or is the problem about something else?

Thank you

  • Hi Pitr,

You should only install Hamachi to the default C: drive of your computer. Installing to a different hard drive can result in a permissions issue later on.

Thank you GlennD , your simple suggestion solved the problem.

Why should developers allow users to install Hamachi in a different directory if doing it will cause known issues? It doesn't make much sense to me...

Anyway, now I can ping other clients in the network, but I'm getting the Inbound Traffic Blocked warning when clicking on Diagnose on one of the connected clients (right click -> Diagnose).

Does this warning cause any problem when communicating with others?

I've tried unchecking "Hamachi" in the list of protected networks (in Firewall advanced settings), added an inbound rule and allowed the Hamachi application. But the warning is still there.

  • UPDATE:

I tried a solution posted at this link, so I tried to run

    hamachi-2.exe -add-tap "Hamachi"

(I installed Hamachi in D: drive and I couldn't find the hamachi-2.exe, but for some reason there was another Hamachi folder in C:, and there I found hamachi-2.exe, I copied it to the D: folder and executed the command).

    I also restarted Windows.

    The error remains.
