DSL Vs. Satelite with VoIP

We are looking at rural properties and since my wife works from home, we would be looking at DSL speeds of about 1-1.5 Mbps download for a wired connection.  Would this work for standard GoTo screen-sharing sessions with simultaneous VoIP telecommunications?

Re: Rural Internet Connection with VoIP

Unfortunately Satellite internet connections do not tend to work well for realtime streaming applications like GoToMeeting due to their latency.

DSL on the other hand can do things like prioritize your internet connection over phone, TV or other.  Upload speeds on DSL are usually, though not always better than Satellite.

Re: Rural Internet Connection with VoIP

Hi Jake,

That would meet our system requirements for attending or hosting a meeting. Sharing and viewing webcams as well as screen sharing and VoIP might be a little too much all at the same time, but your Wife can always switch those off.

Re: Rural Internet Connection with VoIP

Thanks for the info Glenn.  Is there a required ping speed for GoTo to perform correctly?  Basically, does satellite internet meet the requirements for GoTo?
