I don't follow the reasoning in making something available to users who know how to use the API but not to others.
Also, perhaps I'm naive but I don't get what kind of integrity issues there could be in allowing the automation of something that is already possible manually. But I will drop this discussion, with the remark that it's unfortunate since it's a much-needed feature for our organisation.
Bottom line: We need to prevent unwanted spam or LogMeIn may face repercussions. This way we can guarantee participants clicked the registration link themselves to voluntarily opt-in themselves.

@AshC I have managed to set up the API. I see indeed in the documentation that the API can be used to "Accept registrations", however I couldn't find any further reference to this.
My hunch is that this would be done through the "Get registrant" call and then using some sort of PATCH. Is that the case?
Just got a final reply from support, and basically what I intended to do is not possible with the API. You can use the API to register participants, but not to change their approval status.
