Editing files in File Manager

When I am using the file manager and right click on a file to edit it I would like to change the default application it uses to edit the file. These are .txt and .sql files.

My computer already has Notepad++ setup as the default editor of these file types but within LogMeIn it uses the standard notepad that comes with MS Windows.

Is it possible to change the default editor for specific file types from within LogMeIn Pro?

I know this is an old thread but I found a solution. From within Notepad++ open the plugin manager. Navigate to the plugin named “NotepadStarterPlugin“ and install. It will prompt to restart Notepad++ and do so.

After the plugin is installed any calls to open Notepad.exe will open Notepad++.exe instead.

I have tested it with Logmein and it works.

LogMeIn Pro does not dictate what program will open the file.  Since you are using Notepad++ already, I suggest going through the procedure of replacing notepad.exe with the notepad++ one.  This will cover you for all scenarios.

Sean, your suggestion indicates to me you are not understanding my issue so I will attempt to explain it better.

1. I already have Notepad++ installed on my laptop.

2. Notepad++ is already set as my default editor for various file types like .txt and .sql

3. LogMeIn asside when I open these type of files they open in Notepad++. Such as opening them from the Windows File Explorer.

4. When I try to edit these files from within the LogMeIn Pro file manager they open with the default windows application Notepad. So it appears that LogMeIn Pro does not care what my default is set to and just uses what it thinks is the appropriate handler for that file type. The File Manager in LogMeIn Pro shows the Notepad++ icon however does not open the file in the Notepad++.

So yes this behavior is unique to LogMeIn. I would just like them to open in Notepad++

I understand exactly what you are encountering.  I am telling you how I myself resolved this issue when I encountered it on my own computer.

We have no configuration specific to LogMeIn to force files to open in specific applications.
