"Calling Card as a Service" Feature is now available on Rescue Beta
Benefit:
- Once an Admin Installs the Calling Card, subsequent Rescue sessions initiated to/from the Calling Card will not require the Technician to elevate to Admin Mode as the Calling Card was already installed as a service.
- The feature will greatly improve usability of the Calling Card and make it much simpler for users to get connected in an internal use case.
Notes:
- In this initial beta release, testing this version will require knowledge of the command prompt, and installing an MSI with command line switches
- Beta is not available for customers that have their Rescue environment on the EU servers. The feature will be available for EU once the feature is live.
To perform testing of this new version you can follow the steps below.
- Login to beta.logmeinrescue.com with existing credentials
- Navigate to a Channel in the left tree and select the Channels tab in the top navigation
- Enter an installer name e.g. “test service mode”
- Check the Windows checkbox
- Click generate
- The MSI will download to your chosen download folder
When installing the MSI via the command prompt, the following parameter is used to designate service mode:
- FEATURESERVICE=0 - use the CC as it is today – non-service mode
- FEATURESERVICE=1 - install CC as permanent service
Example install via the command prompt:
- In Windows navigate to start and type cmd in the search bar
- Click Command prompt to open (right click and run as administrator)
- In the command prompt you must type a command line as follows:
- Msiexec.exe <install option> <”path to package”> <options> <package parameters>
In this example, the Calling Card is being installed by downloading to the desktop and selecting to install in service mode. Don’t forget the quotes around the file location
msiexec /i “C:\Users\UserName\OneDrive - LogMeIn Inc\Desktop\LogMeIn Rescue Calling Card x86.msi” FEATURESERVICE=1
What's next?
Prior to "go live" in September, we will add an option to the admin center that allows users to define if the Calling Card installer will be downloaded with serivcemode enabled or disabled. In a subsequent release later this year, we will add the same option to the Calling Card tab within the Technician Console.
