LogMeIn Video Decoder

I have no idea where else to post this, so will do it here.

Recently got a large .avi file (video) which I have tried to play on several video players (WMP, DivX, Camtasia Player, etc.) and they all play only audio with black screen -- and all say it needs "Logmein Video Decoder" ...  after an hour or so of searching Google and discussion boards, I find a lot of other people having this problem and NO solution posted that I've found yet.

I ran dxdiag and found that both the Decoder and Encoder ARE on my system, so I searched for racodec.ax and found SEVEN versions in various sub-folders of /Program Files/Logmein/

My question here is:  how do I get the video players to see/use the racodec.ax codec to play .avi files encoded with the Logmein video encoder?

and, as a side question, I have not found any info on Logmein site or elsewhere about ENcoding files with that encoder...  any pointers?

RE: LogMeIn Video Decoder

Here are a few resources you can try.

Rescue .AVI file fixer:
Repair corrupted Rescue screen recording .avi files.
https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/TechConsole/AVIFileFixer.msi

Rescue .AVI codec:
Install this codec to play back screen recording .avi files. https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/TechConsole/AVICodec.msi

Rescue .AVI Converter:
Convert screen recording files to .avi files for playback in any media player. This is used if you are making IT Reach/ Rescue screen recordings using the proprietary "rcrec" format which is about 30% smaller than .AVI files.
https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/TechConsole/AVIConvert.msi

These tools (and some others) are centrally located at www.logmein.com
->support->LogMeIn Rescue-> Resources.

As an aside, I find VLC media player to be tremendously flexible in its support for a wide variety of codecs.

RE: LogMeIn Video Decoder

Good Morning, I have a question, I need to enter my remote PC in a separate account to which they are currently working there, without interrupting the work they are doing, as I do that?

Thank you.

Re: RE: LogMeIn Video Decoder

  Hey,

It seems the racodec.ax isn't registered correctly on some computers.

I have a quick solution for this problem: start regedit, go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers.desc

If "racodec.ax" cannot be found there at the right side, then simply create a new String value with the name "racodec.ax". The value itself can be anything, f.e. "LMI Screen Recording Codec".

For me, it works correctly now.

I've tried these as well with no luck.. remarkably, Nero Showtime plays them natively.  FYI.

Re: Recorded Videos Via LOGMEIN Not Working

I'm having the same issue.  Windows 10 ver 1809.  LMI rescue creates the AVI file and I can see the thumbnail of the video, but I can't get it to play back or open in any video editing/playing software including VLC.

Re: LogMeIn Video Decoder

Hi @tweebs,

Sorry about that. Is every recorded video failing to play still?

Did you try the suggestions on this thread already?

Re: LogMeIn Video Decoder

Yes, still unsure why.  I tried installing the codec.  Is it normally installed with the Technician console?
