Printing and Windows 8

Anyone else figured out how to bring when you're on a Windows 8 computer? I'm using a Windows 8 box to connect to a Windows XP box and when I go to print I see the document start to spool on my local machine, then it just disappears.

Yes I just tried those steps and they produce the same results. I see the document start to spool on the client computer and then it just disappears from the print queue without having printed.

It'd be helpful to know whether this arrangement is supported at all in GoToMyPC - Windows 8 64-bit client and a Windows XP Pro 32-bit host, printer is a HP Officejet100 Mobile L411.

The same problem existed when I tried printing from a Windows 8 64-bit host to a Windows 8 32-bit client. Is it Windows 8? Or is it the difference in the architecture? What arrangements with Windows 8 have been able to successfully print?

I am also interested in remote printing with Win8. I have a Win7 computer with an HP Laserjet attached. The printer is shared. My Win8 computer and the Win7 are in a home group and the printer shows up on my Win8 machine. I can print a test sheet from my Win8 on the printer. I can print email from my Thunderbird (residing on the Win8) on the printer.
BUT, when I try to print a notepad or wordpad doc from the notepad or wordpad program an error message shows and the applications are terminated with no printing.
I have another Win7 computer sharing the same home groupl. It prints fine from both applications.
I can only conclude it to be a Win8 problem, but have found no-one with a solution.

Hi,

I've been investigating reports of printing issues with Windows 8. The problem usually happens if the client computer is a Windows 8 machine. So far, I've found that this issue is related to a specific way that Windows 8 handles drivers on the client computer.

When you plug in a printer to a Windows 8 computer, Windows 8 will try to automatically install a driver for you. This automatically installed driver should work immediately and let you print just fine, however we've seen cases where it may not be able to handle print jobs that are remotely transmitted from a GoToMyPC session.

If you experience this issue, you may consider using the print driver supplied by your printer's manufacturer instead of using the print driver installed automatically by Windows 8. On your Windows 8 client, visit the printer manufacturer's support page and install the print driver from this page. The driver that is available from the printer manufacturer's page often differs from the driver that Windows 8 installs. Often, after installing this driver, printers are able to receive and print jobs that are transmitted from a GoToMyPC session.

Unfortunately, not all printer manufacturers have released drivers for all versions of Windows 8. I've checked today and HP has released a Windows 8 32 bit driver for the HP Officejet 100 Mobile L411, but not a 64 bit version as yet. We will continue to investigate reports of these issues and I will post an update here as I have more information.

I am trying to print my income tax form and it tells me my printer is not connected, but it is because I printed a test page. Am I doing something wrong? Windows 8 is new to me.
