Export Archived Texted or Unarchive Text Messages

We have hit a snag with the system and all of our prior texts have been archived making all prior conversations complicated. In order to undo the problem, it seems we will have a massive loss of data that we are required by the state to hold for three years. I am not sure what to do here to make our phones go back to working without the data loss.
