New contact update

How are companies recommended to organize shared contacts with locations in different states and different customer basis?

Also would be useful to be able to turn this off in admin.

Currently having users adding contacts freely and messing up other branch locations contacts.

Would be super useful to be able to import contacts based of locations only in admin.

Same thing with contacts internally would be incredibly helpful to split up contacts off location and be able to select from softphone.

In a company of roughly 200 users I have a quarter using the desktop application because it seems limited on how it can assist workflow.

  • Hi Bradyhed10 Happy New Year.

By design, shared contacts can be added and modified by everyone.

There are enterprise contacts, where contacts are only modified by the admin in the admin portal. An admin needs to re-upload all contacts each time they want to do modify contact (note this process is currently being improved).

Neither of these processes would allow you to control different state/branch within 1 pbx/organization. Access is controlled per organisation. Everyone in the organization can see all contacts from that organization. The quickess way to achieved your goal would be to  have 1 organization per branch/state

      Thank you for your response,

Is that what other companies do that have other organizations?  I can imagine that even single locations that are very large do not need contacts shared throughout the company. Do they just connect these locations through Dial plans?

Accounting department might have different contacts then sales vs IT vs developers. But all of Accounting might want to share contacts with each other and all of IT might want to share contacts with each other.

Do you plan on updating this so that it can be turned off on the admin side?

Updates are coming on the admin side where certain contacts can only be modified by the admin. This sounds like it may be better suited to your purpose. I don't have a timeline for this, but we do keep the Community updated when improvements and new features are released.
