Viewing webinars not working on Linux any longer?

Hi!

Why can't I attend webinars with sound any longer?
I'm using Ubuntu/Linux. It has worked a long time and last week it was fine!

Now I just get the option to call in, no sound in the browser. It used to be like this in Firefox but now it's the same in Chrome. I tried upgrading Chrome from version 70.0.3538.77 to 89.0.4389.82 but it's the same.

How can I get sound on Ubuntu/Linux desktop again?!

Thanks.

Re: Viewing webinars not working on Linux any longer?

The basic reason is Firefox implements computer/web audio differently, which means in order to support it time and development resources are required to enable and maintain support. When you look at market share, Chrome dominates and even Safari tends to have more users than Firefox.

The good news is with Microsoft moving Edge over to Chrome as it's engine that reduces the amount of work we need to do to support it, so we are looking into adding support for Firefox.

Hi @ben72

Attending webinars using Chrome on Linux is still supported, which version of Ubuntu are you using?  Could you please try to join our test GoToMeeting, then click on the gear icon and see if your audio devices are detected correctly?

Re: Viewing webinars not working on Linux any longer?

Hi,

I'm on Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS and it has worked for a long time.

I tried on my wifes laptop which has 20.04 and it worked there.

When I go to the test page the sound plays on two of the device choices. I'll test again on the next real session. I'm not getting in to any session on the test page it looks like. Or at least it doesn't look like in the help..

Why don't you support Firefox on Linux??

Thanks,

Ben

Re: Viewing webinars not working on Linux any longer?

It's working in Chrome again! It was just the audio setting in the webinar mode that had for some reason changed to call in.

That sounds great! Firefox has quite large usage in the open source community.

Thanks!

Ben
