Alt+Tab not working properly

Hello,

I attend a GoToWebinar most days in Windows 11, and the desktop webinar software does not operate properly with Windows alt+tab application switching feature.

For instance, if I am viewing the webinar then I switch to another window using alt+tab, I am unable to switch back to the webinar with one operation of alt+tab as normally expected.

In Windows when alt+tab is pressed a 'Task View' window appears from which any other running program can be selected. After selecting another program, keying alt-tab again and releasing selects the program last used. For example, I can be working on a spreadsheet then use alt+tab to switch to a word processor. If I key alt+tab from the word processor once and release, I am returned to the spreadsheet.

But alt+tab doesn't work as expected with GoToWebinar. After switching to another program from GoToWebinar and then keying alt+tab again I see the GoToWebinar instance in Task View but it is not positioned directly to the right of the program I am switching back from as it should. Instead it is positioned near the lower right corner of Task View, and I must hold alt+tab and use the keyboard arrow keys to select GoToWebinar.

I reported this to tech support and they say this behaviour is "expected". Well, it isn't expected. I expect software to behave like any other under Windows, and to work properly with the alt+tab feature.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem and if so have you found a solution or workaround? Are the developers listening???

Thank you

    Hello,

I uninstalled GoToMeeting and tried running the webinar as an attendee in a browser, and the alt-tab function works properly.

Level 2 support didn't say that they didn't find a bug. What they said is that the behaviour with GoToMeeting is "expected". The level 1 tech viewed the behaviour when remoting into my computer and she called it "strange". Strange behaviour isnt' expected and I believe the desktop software has a bug that prevents alt-tab from working properly. Since I can't get the problem resolved I'll continue using a browser.

    thanks,

    Doug

    Hi HappyTubeGuy

Thanks for getting back to me. I tested as an attendee and see there is not an option to pop-out/merge if the webinar is on the classic version, so those instructions won't help.

Trying as an attendee on my end, viewing the webinar in the browser, using alt+tab, I could switch between the webinar and an open window without any issue. If I had multiple windows open, I had to choose the webinar screen on the far right.

I apologize if this isn't behaving as you expect. Typically, if your case was escalated to T2, it means our team has thoroughly reviewed and it sounds like they couldn't find a bug. I will share your feedback with the team.

  • Thank you KateG.

The software I'm running is called GoToMeeting v10.20.0, and presumably the software the webinar host is running is GoToWebinar. Apologies for any confusion.

I'm unable to find an option for 'merged view', or 'pop-out' option, and I do not see three dots in the GoToMeeting window or the control panel. I am a participant in the webinar and I'm not hosting it.

When I reported the issue to GoTo tech support, the tech remoted into my computer and observed the behaviour I describe. The issue was escalated to level 2. I received an email a short time later explaining that the behaviour is "expected".

I use Windows 11 on an 11th generation i7 computer with 16GB RAM. I built the computer. Thank you again.

    Hi HappyTubeGuy

Welcome to the Community. I tried to replicate your experience using the new beta experience.

Using the webinar in merged view, I was able to use  alt+tab and switch between Webinar and another program without issue.

When using Webinar 'Pop-out' option, Webinar would remain on top, unless "Always on Top" was disabled in the menu by pressing the three dots.

If this still isn't working for you as expected can you share a bit more about the set-up including what version of Windows and type of PC are you using?

    Thanks.
