Technician Console: "Start Console communication error. Error code (7), Last error (0)."

This or very similar errors can occur when there are missing or dysfunctional Technician Console network communications dependencies.

In our case, we experienced this issue with versions v7.12.3379, v7.50.3580, and v7.53.4017 when installing to Windows Server 2019.  The issue arose because TC is dependent upon elements of Internet Explorer.  IE is deprecated and we routinely uninstall it in favor of Chrome in our environment.  Apparently, TC cannot function without it but the TC installer does not check if this critical dependency is present.

If you experience this error, ensure Internet Explorer is installed and functioning properly.  You may need to reset IE or even uninstall/reinstall IE to clear this issue.  We took it one step further and simply rebuilt the server entirely, leaving Internet Explorer intact.

A service request (20988809) has been logged with GoTo to update the TC installer to check that this critical dependency be tested and, if absent, fail with a clear explanation to prevent this "thrash" going forward.

Yes.  I have used the web console.  I was pleased to see it - a step in the right direction, IMHO.  But the web console still lacks some features (last I used it), misbehaves with some browsers (Firefox), and is still pretty slow by comparison to the TC.  Still, it's very nice to have as a backup.

  • The Technician Console error seems linked to missing Internet Explorer erome didn't work properly without it.
