PBX Admin going away completely? -- Issues with GoTo Admin that are only resolvable in PBX.

We utilize Yealink phones along with our GoTo Connect implementation. To effectively manage these phones we utilize BOTH GoTo Admin and the PBX Administration interfaces. There doesn't appear to be any way to achieve certain functionality in just the GoTo Connect interface.

To explain our use case:

We often have to offboard users and onboard new users later on. Before we deactivate a user, we need to then change the phone to a non-user phone temporarily (Licensed as a standalone device) and then when we set it up for the next user, change it back to a user licensed device. This is to preserve the button configuration on the phone and allow the phone to remain usable until a new person is designated to sit at that desk. There doesn't appear to be any way to do this in GoTo Admin, once a phone is Standalone you can't assign it to a user; but this can be accomplished by going through several steps in both the PBX Admin and the GoTo Admin interfaces together. Simply deactivating a user and later reassigning a phone in GoTo Admin can be tricky too because the phone will end up wiping out its button configuration, which should be maintained for the next person and is a hassle to have to set up again.

Is there some way we can in the GoTo Admin switch phones from being Standalone Licensed and User Licensed? There appears to be no way to do this currently at least as far as I can see, and once the PBX Admin is deprecated we will no longer have this functionality and it will affect our flow for offboarding and onboarding users.

If this is simply not possible is there some other method we should be using to offboard and later onboard users? We need to deactivate user accounts so they no longer have access to the GoTo Mobile app on their phones (which also a separate issue - access doesn't get removed unless they specifically close the mobile app on their phones), but we need to maintain their desk phones as usable with their extensions (potentially forwarded to another extension) until a new person is hired to sit in that desk. We also would much prefer that the button configuration on a phone doesn't get wiped out during this process.

What's the solution here if the PBX Admin interface is no longer accessible?

Thank you for the update KateG!  Overall, I believe the transition from the legacy Jive PBX to GoTo Admin has gone well as we at least still have access to the old PBX for now.  I'm glad your back-end developers are working on solutions or at least considered them for these inquiries.

Hi EvanW92 good seeing you. I shared your feedback and here's the response from the team:

    • For limitations when it comes to removing a user from a desk phone and reassigning this as a standalone device, we have received this feedback and are working on a way to make it possible and easier in GoTo Admin
    • For better visibility to see users who only use the softphone app, the team is considering adding this in the users' table
    • For device lists being harder to navigate for big accounts because you must flip through pages instead of scrolling, there are not current plans to change this, but this has been shared and they will take a look.

    Thanks for your input!

I agree with this 100% as we manage well over 300 GoTo accounts for our clients and we have significant limitations when it comes to removing a user from a desk phone and reassigning this as a standalone device before switching it to another user.  This process is fairly straightforward in the legacy Jive PBX, however, the new(ish) GoTo Admin portal causes this to be very tricky if not impossible without wiping the button configurations.

In addition, we have some clients that only use GoTo app/softphone without any actual desk phones, and in the "Devices" section in GoTo Admin, it has nothing listed.  You have to go under "People" and while it does show their status as "Active" it can be a bit misleading as the old PBX you can users as "Softphone only".

Also, in the legacy Jive PBX, if there are more than "50" devices in one account, you can just scroll down through the list without needing to click on a separate page each time to view the other devices.  We have some larger clients that have well over 200 devices (some active and some not) that we now need to toggle between pages since the "Rows per page" max out at 50 on the new GoTo Admin portal.

    Thank you!

To add to this, additionally, in the GoTo Admin interface there appears to also be no way to change a phone to be licensed as a Standalone Device; it looks like this can only be done in the PBX currently. There would need to be functionality in GoTo Admin to convert a phone to Standalone Licensed, and then later convert it back to User Licensed. Also during this process the phone's configuration would need to be maintained (eg. button configuration)

Hi logsurfing, not to worry, we are making sure that the PBX Admin will be available for customers who need it until the new GoTo Admin has the required feature parity.

  • This is also a major concern for us and the 100+ GoTo tenants we manage.  Any updates?
