This will be a great feature to have in GoTo Meeting. The mute all features works great but attendees can simply unmute themselves. This feature is available in Zoom Meeting basic features. I wonder how we suggest this feature for GoTo Meeting?

3HHH If you want to 'hard-mute' your audience, dial in early as the Organizer via telephone, and use the *5 command to rotate into listen-only mode for your audience. I'm sorry there isn't an extra command via the endpoint to do this currently.

So your solution seems to tell us to use a different platform. From an end-user viewpoint, that is not a solution. GoToMeeting does not state up front that the organizer cannot maintain control over their meeting. Instead, the organizer discovers, mid-stream, that it is a free for all with no way to manage it. Then you tell the organizer, after the fact, to go to a different platform if they want to be able to actually be in charge of their meeting. I will not bother any more with GoToMeeting when other services actually provide the service that is expected.

TOVDEW If you need more control or privacy over your audience, then you may want to consider GoToWebinar services, where all attendees are hard-muted by default upon entry.

Looking back over a year, and still no hard mute from the controls. I've noticed no hard mute in the organizer controls and the answer is still to dial in to do the *5 cycle method which is ridiculous. If someone is interrupting, your only option is to boot them and lock the meeting quick or let them interrupt and cause problems until you can dial in, enter the access code and cycle everyone into a forced/locked mute, then have the organizer unmute people who will be talking. Zoom is your competitor and has this option readily available. Please implement that feature back in the mix. You state you removed it after changing the attendee limit. You're product seems to be perfect minus that missing feature.
There is no harm having that ability in the organizer side while on the application.

Based on my needs and those in this thread, I think it would be a good idea for a "hard mute all" to be a feature request and have the option in the Control Panel. Thank you.

a beta version was installed that allows to mute phone dialed in users, i tested and saw that this matches my requirement.

RobertEngel I apologize for the difficulty you experienced.
At this time, an Organizer PIN is still required in order to cycle the GoToMeeting audio into 'Listen Only' mode (*5). This is for the security of the meeting controls, and you can easily receive a PIN through your desktop or mobile device once launched into the active session.
If you are holding mostly Audio-Only meetings, and need more advanced audio options, I can also suggest the use of OpenVoice conferencing services: https://www.gotomeeting.com/audio-conferencing

Hello Support,
we as discussed with the support we should raise this request:
If a user attends a meeting with phone dial in and enters no audio pin it is impossible to mute the attendee. We can send an audio pin, but as long as the user is dialed in he cannot type in the audio pin. in order to be unmuted he has to hang up and dial in again with conference id and audio pin. For a few attendees it is not the problem, but with many attendeed (we have a 150 attendee license) it is awful. Please force the development to mute an attendee with dialing regardless if audio pin is entered. - AshC7 years agoRetired GoTo Contributor
Marilyn4 If you are dialing in by phone, make certain that your dial-in instructions disappear on your GoToMeeting control panel once you enter your Organizer PIN via keypad. This should give you the green light to mute any conference member thereafter.
- Marilyn47 years agoNew MemberWe will try to replicate. Can you provide me the definition or steps needed to be "successfully connected thru the endpoint software"? I want to be able to replicate
Thanks! - AshC7 years agoRetired GoTo Contributor
Marilyn4 That scenario shoud not happen if the controlling Organizer was successfully connected through the endpont software. Please let us know should it continue.

A secondary question that is a step further from this scenario, the organizer controls and the attendee controls both show that the attendee was muted, how could everyone continue to hear the attendee? The attendee used the Call Me feature for audio and had the presentation on the computer screen.

Thanks again for the message. This functionality should be a core component of any paid audio-presentation conferencing service. Organizers need to have this control across phone and computer controls since the organizers are those paying for the service and are those who moderate the meeting. Regardless of the attendee count, this option for the host should be available. As it stands, the organizer cannot control if an attendee chooses to speak out of turn or raise a question while another attendee or organizer is speaking/presenting. Again, this function is a simple basic function that should be fully available.
GotoWebinar is great and has many features that users of GotoMeeting may not use. A full mute control again is core functionality and an upgrade to GotoWebinar just for this feature alone does not make sense.
Are you able to put in a high level request for this functionality to be added back? Under this situation, at least the optionality would be available for these circumstances where it is needed. This is yet another step to improve the sevice in a fashion that does not impact the value proposition provided by GotoMeeting. Please confirm if you can make the request for this change.
Thanks for the help and support with regard to this matter.

SmithWeekly We removed the hard-lock functionality when we increased the Attendee limits for GoToMeeting for easier self-maintenance of the audio feed by individuals. I don't know if the functionality will return, but if you absolutely need it then I would suggest using GoToWebinar instead-- which has very clearly defined differences between Staff controls Vs. Attendee's.

Thank you for the response. It is a partial solution for those organizers who have phoned in. How might this be done when the organizer is running the meeting soley from a computer? The primary meeting controls via computer appear to not have this feature. Can this be added?
- AshC7 years agoRetired GoTo Contributor
SmithWeekly If you are looking for a 'hard-mute' function to override Attendees, you may do this via telephone keypad when dialed in as the event Organizer. Press *5 to cycle through the muting options for Organizers.
- SmithWeekly7 years agoActive Contributor
Organizers of GotoMeeting do not have the ability to enact a mute override to mute all attendees. Currently, attendees can unmute themselves after being muted by the organizer. The mute fight then begins and is a hinderance to the organizer and the party that pays for the service. An organizer mute override control is requested and is a substantial flaw in the current system. The organizer(s) need to have full mute control when desired and at times during the meeting when there is to be one single presenter during a period of time. Many thanks.

Thanks, I'll have a look into GoToWebinar then.
- AshC7 years agoRetired GoTo Contributor
innovaesoftware I'm sorry for the confusion. It is every Attendee's option to mute or unmute their own lines so that Organizers do not have to manage each one individually.
Azeem If you want to permanently mute all participantes, you can cycle into this mode via your telephone keypad with the *5 command: https://support.logmeininc.com/gotomeeting/help/manage-phone-audio-via-keypad-commands-g2m050045

Hi, is there a way to permanently disable the attendees' audio in a meeting? We have up to 50 attendees and some of them keep reenabling their microphones, even after we mute them. Thanks in advance
- BigE17 years agoNew Contributor
Thanks for the info.
I understand the necessity to keep the settings under the control of the presenters. What I'm asking is if there is any way, or could be any way, for me on my end to selectively mute an attendee who has their mic open.
If this isn't currently possible in the platform, could this be forwarded to the development team to be added as a feature? I'm sure that would be pretty easy, and I can guarantee you that it is something wanted by a lot of people. Thanks! - AshC7 years agoRetired GoTo Contributor
Hi BigE1 ,
I apologize for the echo, as it can disrupt a broadcast completely.
The Muting controls, and Attendee management are strictly for the GoToMeeting Organizers to handle, for security reasons. If you are helping to manage a live meeting, you can ask the scheduling Organizer to make you a Co-Organizer in session for the purpose of muting individual Attendees, but otherwise this role is restricted to moderators only.
- BigE17 years agoNew Contributor
I attend a daily meeting/chat room. There is always one attendee who refuses to mute his microphone and causes all sorts of background noise. The moderators won't mute anyone unless specifically requested.
Is there any option for ME to mute another attendee so that I do not hear them?
IF NOT, WHY NOT??????Thanks

Hi nripley,
With GoToMeeting, attendees have the ability to unmute themselves. If you have a disruptive attendee that refuses to stay muted you can dismis them from the meeting.
GoToWebinar attendees join muted by default and can only be unmuted by the organizer.
